Tambos Chase Family Double At Cluden

27th November 2024

Talented siblings Miss Tambo and Tambo’s Justice make a pretty good brother-sister act.

The two Tambos will chase a rare same day double when they line-up as hot fancies for new trainer Georgie Holt at Cluden Park on Thursday.

A rejuvenated Miss Tambo will tackle the Ladbrokes Mates BM 70 (1200m) and younger brother Tambo’s Mate is set to run favourite in the Cowboys Leagues Club C1 Plate (1400m).

Both out of the good producing mare Lightfeet Lady, herself a Cluden winner, the duo are raced by local breeder, bookmaker and engineer Dalan Tamblyn who switched the pair just weeks ago from Brisbane to Holt’s Townsville stable in search of easier pickings.

After landing impressive first-up wins with the two, Holt believes there’s more wins to come.

“Dalan contacted me a few weeks ago to see if we’d take them. Our stables were pretty much full but he’s obviously had some pretty handy horses. He hasn’t had any in the north for quite a while, so we were quite happy to make room and we’re glad that we did,” Holt said.

“It’s good to be noticed by someone like Dalan. He’s a local guy who’s put a lot into the industry and has some well bred horses and it’s great to make that connection.

“We’ve only had two starters for him for two winners so we’ve kicked off well.”

Tambo’s Justice, a three-year-old by the boom Coolmore sire Justify, has been a slow burner.

He posted three inglorious trials in Brisbane and Townsville, but improved dramatically with the addition of blinkers to win easily on debut at Cluden over 1300m on November 17.

Miss Tambo showed a new zest for racing when she appreciated easier class and landed her fourth career win and first victory for a year over 1000m at her first Cluden start on November 5.

“They’re both pretty big but other than that they’re very different horses,” Holt said.

“Tambo’s Justice is looking for much more distance. He took hard riding from start to finish the other day and that’s probably why his trial form isn’t great.

“Over 850m he really struggles, and also he’s learning and taking it all in.

“He’s an absolutely stunning type, beautiful big horse, very strong and just hasn’t yet put it all together.

“I definitely think that he wants more ground. That’s why we put the blinkers on and had to ride him vigorously to keep him switched on.

“But over time he’s going to want a go over much further and I think he’s got a big engine.

“Thursday’s another stepping stone. He came through his first start super and we’re expecting another good showing this week.

“Miss tambo really knuckled down a lot better than I expected when she won first-up for us.

”I know Dalan was up in the air about sending her to the breeding barn or giving her another go and I’m glad that he decided to keep her racing.

“Like we do with a lot of our horses, we’ve just done different things with her to switch her on. Going to the beach, working at home at the farm  seems to be paying off with her.

“It was a non-TAB the other day but her finish was brilliant and Thursday will be a good test to see if she’s going to back that up.”
