Glitter to Sparkle in Cluden Return

29th April 2024 | By Tony Wode

Bowen trainer Tom Button will run Rockhampton Classic winner Silver Glitter at Cluden Park on Tuesday to keep open an option for a possible Brisbane trip.

Button has reassessed plans with the exciting Denman filly to consider a Brisbane start after her barnstorming win in the Capricornia 2YO Classic on April 18.

The top conditioner has elected to run on Tuesday before deciding to tackle a fillies’ race in Brisbane or the $100,000 Lawrence & Hanson 2YO Classic at Cluden on June 8 with the exciting Denman filly.

Silver Glitter is set to run favourite against a small but quality line-up in Tuesday’s Happy Birthday Lacey Morrison QTIS 2YO Hcp (1000m) with barrier one and in-form 3kg claiming apprentice Gabby Semmens to ride.

“She pulled up great from Rocky and after that win we’ve had a little bit of a change of plans,” Button said.

“We were going to go into the lead-up (prelude on May 17) and then into the Classic but we saw this race and going this way it keeps a fillies’ race in Brisbane open to us if we want to go that way.

“I think barrier 1 is really good for her. She’s got early speed if you want to use it. We’ve sat outside the leader and won, and the other day we drew wide and rode her a bit quiet and she’s happy to do that.

“She’s pretty versatile, you can ride her both ways.

“That’s probably the best part about her. She’s easy to ride. She pings the lids and you can give her a squeeze, sit outside the leaders no dramas.

“But if you want to come out neutral she can take a sit and she’s got a good little turn of foot.

“But from barrier one I think we’ll be third the fence. Clint Taylor’s (I’lltellyougo) is very fast. She should get a good run from there.”

“I am confident. I expect her to get a good run from the barrier, she gets in well at the weights and she has the form on the board.”

Silver Glitter recorded a win and two placings at her first three starts in Townsville before her stunning last to first victory in the Rockhampton Classic.

By Denman out of the Domesday mare Grey Glitter, Silver Glitter has already topped the $150,000 prizemoney mark in just four starts.

Button and his stable apprentice Semmens will also combine later in the day with the consistent galloper Four Mile Lane and expects the forward runner to be a strong chance in the Hygain BM 55 Hcp (1609m).

Meanwhile, flying mare Chilli Jam will face a sharp class and distance rise in her quest for a fifth straight Cluden win with regular ride Isabella Teh in the saddle in the Ladbrokes BM70 Hcp (1200m).

Wulguru trainer Tony Comerford is pleased with the speedy mare after  almost a month between runs but says the final stages of the 1200m trip will be the big test.

“It’s a harder race on Tuesday obviously, stepping to 1200m. She had a jump out last week just to keep her ticking over and she won and went  well.

“She pulled up good and I thought this is as good a time as any to try her at 1200m. She’s fit and well and at some point we’re going to have pull up but she’s doing well so we decided to have a go.

“Fitness won’t be an excuse. Izzie rides her work and she claims 2kg which comes in very handy.

“There’s a few in it that go pretty quick so I expect we’ll have a few visitors.

“She tends to go well cruising at high speed and travelling so there’s no point trying to ride her differently I suppose.

“But I have said to Izzy one day you might have to take a sit if something wants to go that fast but she knows her well and she knows to use her own discretion.

“I was just trying to win a maiden, a B and maybe a Class 1 so she’s really exceeded my expectations already.”
