Cluden Park Fibre Training Track Complete
Cluden Park’s incredible facilities continue to be enhanced with the delivery of a new fibre sand track in Townsville.
The $1.6 million upgrade, which was completed by Martin Collins Australia, also included the installation of a bullring track within the infield.
Over the past five years, Cluden Park has been completely reimagined, with new patron and member facilities, along with tie-up stalls for participants.
Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott said the completion of the new fibre sand track was the latest enhancement and has already allowed the Club to host additional jump outs whilst providing more training opportunities for participants.
“The new fibre sand track is already proving to be an invaluable resource in North Queensland,” Mr Scott said.
“The old training track was unable to be utilised on the back of weather events, however the new facilities have already been able to handle significant rainfall without providing any disruption to training.
“The new track is a significant piece of infrastructure for both the welfare of horses and participants in a region that continues to play a significant role both on and off the track to thoroughbred racing in the Sunshine State.”
Cluden Park Chairman Geoff Weeks said feedback from participants has been positive since the project was completed in December.
“The new fibre sand track is already delivering strong results for our trainers and compliments the amenities that have been delivered in recent years including the new jockey facilities and raceday stalls,” Mr Weeks said.
“Over the same period last year, the old track was closed 11 times due to rain, which speaks to the durability of the new first-class surface.
“We take this opportunity to thank Racing Queensland for the funding, project management and delivery of the fibre sand track.
“We would also acknowledge and thank Racing Minister Grace Grace and local Member Les Walker for their continued support and recognition of an industry that generates substantial benefit to the local area.”
