Shryn Strikes Again with Zooming Bolter

Richmond trainer Shryn Royes boosted her reputation for long shot winners after bolter Ilzoomya landed a shock victory at Cluden Park yesterday.

Royes pulled off a stunning upset with roughie Breakdance over the good galloper Paniagua at Cluden Park in 2022.

She went one better at Cluden on Thursday with $3000 purchase Ilzoomya who lobbed at 60-1 in the Cowboys Leagues Club BM62 Hcp (1200m)..

Royes makes the annual trek to Townsville to run her horses during the summer recess in the West, but was only able to get through this week when the Burdekin River bridge at Macrossan reopened on Wednesday afternoon.

“I actually looked at him in the enclosure and thought he looked the best of them,” Royes said.

“I don’t think Denmans like a lot of work, once they’re fit they’re fit.

“He hasn’t had a gallop since his last start. I didn’t think he could win today but I thought it would be a nice run to get ready for Mt Isa next week.

“Nathan Thomas rode him a treat today, just gave him  perfect run.

“I only paid only $3000 for him. I only buy cheap ones and we’ve had some luck. Viburnum cost $4000 and Zouhope was only $500 and they’ve been good buys.”

Ilzoomya was big result for bookies and denied jockey Ash Butler his fourth winner for the day aboard Win And Tonic.

Butler won earlier on Prideofthebigfish in the Mdn Hcp (1000m), scored an easy win on red hot favourite Mythbuster in the MM 3YO Mdn Hcp (1000m), and lifted Sweet Kisses to a tough win in the BM72 Hcp (1400m).

The Rockhampton based hoop has ridden 36 winners for the season at a 20% strike rate.

“I’m actually getting good rides. It’s been a good day and included a QTIS race which is good and the track was perfect.”

”I was 57kg today, and I’ll ride 56.5kg in Rocky tomorrow and again in Cairns on Saturday so I’m managing my weight pretty well.

“I’ve got 9 rides in Cairns, which is a first for me, and I think I’m a really good chance on at least four or five of them.
